Professor Grant was born and educated in Utah, with degrees from the University of Utah. He joined the chemistry faculty in 1958 after holding a faculty position at the University of Illinois. He is credited as being "an outstanding teacher with a warm and effective, yet challenging, style of lecturing which has made him a favorite throughout the world. Student reports have placed him very near the top of the science college faculty, yet his standards are rigorous as any …" His teaching has included freshman general chemistry, upper division physical chemistry and advanced level graduate courses; he has directed the thesis research of over 40 M.S. and Ph.D. students.
